I wanted to find the best expandable garden hose. So, I tested the X hose Pro, Flexi Hose, Grow Green Expandable Hose, and TBI Pro. They all looked the same at first, but after testing, there was a clear winner. When I opened up all four hoses, they really all seem the same. I was a little worried that this test wasn’t going to show anything interesting.

but boy, was I wrong. They came out completely different after I tested them. A couple of years ago, I tried the original Pocket Hose because I thought it’d be handy for watering my flowers in the front of my house. But it was terrible. It ripped open within just a couple of days from being pulled around the brick on the front of my house.

I gave up and decided I was never going to try its expandable hose again. Well, then I started to wonder, are there any expandable hoses that aren’t terrible? So, I went on a quest to find a good one. I ordered four high-quality expandable hoses. I ordered the X hose Pro, the Flexi hose, the Grow Green, and the TBI Pro.

How was I tested?

I tested them all out, I checked out their materials. And after a couple of weeks of use, I weighed them, I measure them with and without water in them, I use them in real life and measure the volume of water the capacity with them and I measured their spring distance and after all that there was one very clear winner.

Advantages of expandable hoses

So, all four of these hoses had some things in common expandable hoses definitely have their pros and cons.

Some of their advantages are they’re very light. They’re easy to store, they don’t kink, and they usually come with an on-off valve on them. That makes them really easy to switch out nozzles without having to turn off the water.

Disadvantages of expandable hoses

When you’re using an expandable hose at full blast. They can actually shrink a little bit and they can pull you back as you’re trying to water something that can be a little bit annoying. They’re also all made out of fabric and fabric can snag on things also fabrics not gonna last forever.

Especially, outdoors so you have to expect that, they’re not going to last as long as a typical host. Another thing to be aware of is if you use them with a sprinkler, and you turn off the water at the spigot the hose will retract across the lawn. It is really pretty. The problem is it will catch on the grass and rip the grass out as it goes across your lawn.

So, you probably don’t want to do that. Another disadvantage to these types of hoses is they don’t pass as much water as a typical hose. I did a test where I saw how much water could come through in 30 seconds with a typical hose versus the expandable hoses, a typical hose passed two and a third gallon of water in 30 seconds.

The expandable hoses It was between 1.6 and 1.9 gallons in 30 seconds. So, as you can see it’s quite a bit less water. Another disadvantage is most of the expandable hoses won’t spray as far through them. I tested all the hoses and a typical hose with the same nozzle. My regular hose was able to spray 29 feet, most of the expandable hoses could only spray 20 to 24 feet.

The only exception was the growing green hose, which actually did spray a full 29 feet just like the regular hose. Overall, I would say the expandable hoses are fine for regular watering of flowers or vegetables. But they are not for things like power washing or running sprinklers. You just have to realize what they’re capable of doing. So, let’s about the four hoses I tested. I’ll tell you about them from the worst to the best.

Flexi Hose

First up, The Flexi hose. It was by far the most expensive at $55 versus $30 For some of the others and I noticed right away that it actually tangles more than the other hoses. I’m not sure why but it kept ending up in knots. Another problem with this hose was the knob to turn on and off actually got in the way of some of the hose nozzles making it really inconvenient.

It was also the lightest hose and the shortest hose and fully expanded it only went to 45 and a half feet even though it advertised that it was 50 feet long. The Flexi hose did come with a nozzle but it was pretty terrible quality. So, it definitely didn’t justify the price difference for this one. Overall, I would not recommend the Flexi hose because it did the worst on every single test that I did.

Xhose Pro

Next up is the X hose Pro. It did slightly better on all of my tests than the Flexi hose and it was much less expensive at $30. The fabric on this one felt a little softer and fluffier than the other ones. But after I used it I found that that led to a lot more snags and it seemed to gather more dust and dirt as you went along. So, because of the fabric and the X host Pro, I would not recommend this one.

TBI Pro

In the second place that we have the TVI Pro is the only one of the hoses. I tested that wasn’t all black it has orange stripes on it. So, in the testing footage. It’s pretty obvious to tell which one this one is. The TDI pro seemed to have the nicest fabric it just seemed nice and sturdy. I also liked the flexible ends on it.

It seemed like it would probably protect the fabric from ripping at the ends. Which is one of the most common ways that these hoses Do you fail. The length of the TBI Pro was also exactly as promised when it was fully expanded.

It was exactly 50 feet overall. I would recommend the TBI pro because it did pretty well on all of my tests and the fabrics in the nicest. But it is a bit more expensive at $38 and it didn’t do quite as well on most of the tests as the Grow greenhouse.

Grow Green Hose

My number one is the Grow greenhouse. It looked very similar out of the box to the Flexi hose and I actually thought maybe it was the same one with just a different knob on it. But after I started testing. It was pretty obvious they were very different. When I weighed them, they weighed quite a bit more than the Flexi hose. But part of it could be because it was a lot longer, fully extended.

It actually went all the way to 57 feet seven feet longer than they advertised as the length of the hose. It also passed the largest volume of water and it shot the water the furthest on my spray test with all that it was also the least expensive at $30. Without a doubt, the Grow Green one was definitely the nicest of the hoses I tested.

Does the 100 ft heavy duty have the spray nozzle attachment to buy? I need this.

The black heavy-duty hoses include a storage sack, but NO nozzle.

When the hose is connected to the faucet, it is troublesome to rotate. Is there a connector that does not need to be rotated?

No, I have not experienced a problem. I like the hose, seems more sturdy than other “Pocket Hose Products”. I have only had for a few months this summer. Usually, these types of products only last a couple of summer seasons. I will wait till the end of next summer before I can determine whether or not this product is any better than the others I have tried.

Has the issue of valve placement been corrected yet? The valve is placed too close to the threads of the hose.

The hose comes with four extra washers. Put an extra washer in the connector to create some space for the valve and the problem is solved.

What is the length of the hose while not in use?

It can expand up to 3 times its original length “ so if ur looking at the 25ft hose, ur looking at a little over 8 feet.

What is the diameter of this hose?

Is this a 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch hose?

Is this hose seamless?

Yes. I absolutely love this. Very lightweight and easy to handle.

Is the size advertised before it fills with water or afterward?

After. It’s way smaller when you get it. As water goes threw, it starts getting longer and fattening up. I bought 2 75inch and got a 3rd in a day. I would recommend 100 feet or 75. When shutting the valve off, it starts to shrink and go smaller. 75 inches barely take any space when smaller. I just leave it on the ground or put it in a small pot plant.
